Reverse Sun Damage with an IPL Photofacial
The sun gives you a radiant glow during the summer months, but when the season ends and years pass, you end up having premature formation of lines, dark spots, and dullness. An IPL facial can undo some of this sun damage. Here’s how.

Years of fun in the sun, especially without sun protection, can lead to premature skin aging, dark spots, and crepey-ness. Undo this sun damage with IPL photofacials available at Island Aesthetics and Dermatology. Experienced skin specialists Kristy Anderson, ARPN, and Shannon Tumblin, ARPN, want to help you look your best at every age with advanced technology and customized treatment plans.

Discover how they can help you repair sun damage without surgery using IPL photofacials.

About pulsed light technology

Intense pulsed light (IPL) precisely targets sun-damaged skin. The laser energy is attracted only to areas with too much pigment, which include age or sun spots, melasma, freckles, and other types of sun damage.

Many lasers use one intense beam of light to treat your skin. The energy of IPL is different. It has multiple wavelengths that penetrate beneath the surface of your skin to break up melanin cells – the cells responsible for discoloration.

The Island Aesthetics and Dermatology team recommends IPL photofacials to lighten these pigment imperfections on areas such as your face, neck, chest, and hands. The pigment shatters and eventually flakes off to reveal an even skin tone and more youthful complexion. After a series of IPL treatments, you look radiant, younger, and fresh.

Results without surgery

IPL photofacials don’t require incisions, blood loss, or injections. The laser is non-ablative; it won’t remove a layer of your skin like more aggressive laser treatments.

The light wavelengths reach below your skin’s surface, so your outer layer of skin remains intact and undamaged.

An IPL facial creates a warming sensation as your provider glides the photofacial handpiece across your skin. It feels much like tiny rubber bands snapping against your skin. The treatment isn’t painful but can’t cause mild discomfort.

Our providers apply a cooling gel before treatment plus a mild topical anesthetic for patients worried about the sensation. The whole facial takes no longer than an hour.

Always wear sunscreen after and between IPL treatments to prevent more sun damage. Your skin is especially sensitive to UV light after laser treatment.

Correct sun damage and more

If your complexion is blotchy or you have enlarged pores, an IPL facial can help. The treatment is also effective on broken blood vessels and spider veins.

The laser energy also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles because the IPL energy stimulates collagen production and remodeling. Collagen is a primary tissue protein that gives your complexion strength, resilience, and elasticity. Your skin appears naturally smoother and firmer over time.

An IPL photofacial won’t erase wonderful summer memories, but it will prevent them from lingering on your skin. Get rid of brown patches, wrinkles, and spots that make you look older than your years.
